Trondheim internasjonale filmfestival
Welcome to Trondheim international film festival april

Kosmorama

Kosmorama – Trondheim International Film Festival was arranged for the first time April 12. - 17. in 2005.

The word “kosmorama” (in English: cosmorama) means a perspective picture of the landmarks of the world.

The festival has been named Kosmorama after one of Trondheim’s first big cinemas.

Kosmorama Theater was founded in 1910 by Paul Kraüsslich. In addition to running the cinema, Kraüsslich travelled all around the country, filming everything from the fisheries in Lofoten to the World Speed Skating Championship. In 1906, he filmed the coronation in Trondheim and was able to show his film of that event just three hours later. In 1908, he had the additional honour of showing films for the Royal Family at Stiftsgården in Trondheim.

This energetic film pioneer has been one of our sources of inspiration when we now, 100 years later, strive to create our own Kosmorama.

Kosmorama is owned and run by the limited company Filmfest Trondheim AS, which is a subsidiary of Trondheim Kino AS. Trondheim Kino is entirely owned by the Municipality of Trondheim, who during the autumn of 2003 took the initiative to establish a film festival. The festival’s goal is to strengthen the film medium in Middle Norway and contribute to innovations in the intersection between the cultural and business life.

In addition to being a festival for the public of Middle Norway, Kosmorama will also offer many exciting professional events to visitors. As a new festival, we have found it important to select some well-defined areas that we will concentrate upon. Thus, the four pillars of Kosmorama is film, celebrations, talent and technology.
